Certified Slingerland Instructor of Teachers 

Certified Slingerland Instructor of Teachers have deepened their educational practices through study and practical application. Most importantly, they have become members of the Slingerland instructional community, guiding, mentoring, and preparing educators across the globe.

Certification
Requirements

  • Initial certification at the Teacher (CST) level

  • Successful completion assisting with instructing the SLI Introductory Level Comprehensive Class, SLI Introductory Extended Practicum Class, SLI Continuum Comprehensive Class under the guidance of a CSIT

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education

  • Appropriate licensure

  • Two additional (2) years of teaching experience using the Slingerland® Approach

  • Current Membership with the Slingerland® Literacy Institute

  • Willingness to adhere to the code of ethics of the Slingerland® Literacy Institute

  • Completion of a satisfactory criminal background check

  • Panel interview with the Certification Committee to determine preparedness for the CSIT role

Maintaining CSIT Certification

To maintain certification, every three years a CSIT must:

1. Submit record of 30 hours of IMSELC CEUs

2. Maintain a Current SLI Subscription

2. Provide Current Background Check

3. Attend at least one (1) Slingerland Spring Meeting every three years

4. Pay the certification fee

5. Be confirmed by the Faculty Senate

Beginning June, 2024, CSITs seeking to maintain their certification must also submit lecture materials for review to ensure calibration with SLI expectations.
