Slingerland Classes

All classes are taught live by a Certified Slingerland Instructor of Teachers to ensure class participants get the support they need to learn, grow, and succeed.

See a list of class descriptions below.

Comprehensive Classes

Comprehensive Classes are the flagship of Slingerland training. These month-long summer classes for educators learning the Approach occur with a summer school class for minor students learning through the Approach.

This ensures that every day educators:

  • engage in lecture and discussion

  • observe a demonstration lesson

  • reflect on and analyze best practices

  • plan lessons under the supervision of the Instructor

  • deliver lessons to real students in small group or one-on-one settings

  • receive and implement coaching feedback with Instructor support

Extended Practicum

The Comprehensive classes provide the foundation. The Extended Practicum helps educators transform that foundation into confident, effective instruction over nine months.

Through one-on-one coaching and supervised teaching, participants continue developing the skills needed to implement the Slingerland Approach successfully with individual students. Each practicum focuses on authentic instruction, allowing educators to refine techniques, strengthen lesson planning, respond to student needs, and build confidence through guided practice.

Short Classes

Short classes focus on a single element of the Slingerland Approach covered in our Comprehensive Classes.

This ensures that every day class participants get to:

  • engage in lecture and discussion

  • observe video of demonstration lessons

  • reflect on and analyze best practices

  • plan lessons under the supervision of the Instructor

  • deliver lessons to fellow participants in small group or one-on-one settings

Interns learn how to:

  • prepare and deliver all lectures and demonstration lessons for the Introductory and Continuum classes

  • observe educators

  • manage a coaching cycle

  • provide timely, actionable feedback

  • organize, maintain and evaluate a summer session, its students, and its participants
