Certified Slingerland Teacher
Each Certified Slingerland Teacher has gone through extensive training, mentoring, and demonstrated their skill with the Slingerland Approach in real-life situations to prepare them to be the best-prepared educators possible.

Requirements

Successful completion of the four required classes:
-
SLI Introductory Level Comprehensive Class

SLI Introductory Extended Practicum Class
-
SLI Continuum Comprehensive Class
-
SLI Continuum Extended Practicum Classes

Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
-
Appropriate licensure
-
Two (2) years of teaching experience using the Slingerland Approach
-
Current Membership with the Slingerland Literacy Institute
-
Willingness to adhere to the code of ethics of the Slingerland Literacy Institute
-
Completion of a satisfactory criminal background check
-
Portfolio submission for review by the Slingerland Certification Committee
Maintaining CST Certification
To maintain certification, every three years a CST must:

1. Submit record of 30 hours of IMSELC CEUs
2. Maintain a Current SLI Subscription
2. Provide Current Background Check
3. Attend at least one (1) Slingerland Spring Meeting every three years
4. Pay the certification fee
5. Be confirmed by the Faculty Senate

Beginning Sept, 2024: CSTs seeking to maintain their certification must also submit three (3) integrated Slingerland lesson plans for review to ensure calibration with SLI expectations.
