This class covers the theory of Science of Reading/structured literacy and the practical approach of multisensory/multimodal instruction developed by Beth H. Slingerland.
The Slingerland® Approach Multisensory Structured Language Comprehensive Classes are based on an adaptation by Beth H. Slingerland of the multisensory approach of Dr. Samuel T. Orton and Anna Gillingham. The techniques she developed are based on sound neurological principles of learning and give children the necessary tools to be successful readers, writers, and spellers.
The class includes a practicum with students, demonstrations, and observations. This intensive class of study includes instructional techniques in handwriting, written language, decoding, and reading comprehension.
Instructor: Sue Winters
Sue Winters, M. Ed., received training in the Slingerland Approach at the beginning of her career in education. She has used it ever since with students from Kinder through adults. “Slingerland gave me the knowledge and skills to effectively teach students of all levels and ages how to read and write. I love passing on that knowledge to other teachers!” Sue is a Certified Slingerland® Instructor of Teachers, frequent coach for Extended Practicum participants, and currently is the Practicum Supervisor for IMPACT Intern Credentialing Program through Tulare County Office of Education in California.
