Introduction to the Slingerland Screening Procedures

12.5-hour short course                                                                                                        (Includes course materials)

Class Dates

  • Friday, November 10: 4:30 - 7:00 PM

This 12.5-hour course offers an introduction to the Slingerland Screening Procedures, Forms A, B, C, and D for students.  These procedures, developed by Beth H. Slingerland, help identify students with specific language disabilities.  The sooner these children are identified the sooner remediation can begin.  The tests also aid in identifying students who will benefit from structured multi-sensory instruction and whose current language difficulties may continue beyond periods of development or maturational lag and become persistent specific language disabilities in later grades.

Course objectives

  • Understand how the results of the screening can assist in making instructional decisions for students and/or classes
  • Learn how to:
  1. administer, score, and evaluate the Slingerland Screening Procedures (Forms A, B, C, and D)
  2. use the results of the Slingerland Screenings for referral or remediation
  3. identify strengths and weaknesses in language learning
  4. manage the schedule, environment and sequence of the subtests

  • Learn what additional forms are to be completed by parents and teachers
  • Practice administration of the tests – manage the schedule, environment, and sequence of subtests
