I was promised that the weather in Seattle was cool, cloudy, and rainy, but the sun shone, birds sang, and Spring was in its full glory. I’d like to say I wasn’t nervous as people rushed to and fro, setting up pastries and snacks, checking cameras and lights. I had only been Slingerland’s Executive Director for a few months, and it was the first day of the 2023 Spring Conference. Somehow, I was in charge.

We had about a hundred people in attendance, both locals and those who had travelled across the country. Our expert speakers were excellent, delving into their topics with passion and precision. As I wove my way through the large, round tables covered in their Slingerland blue tablecloths, I listened in to the conversations like I used to in my classroom. There was laughter, interest in the topics, and a sense of camaraderie I have only found among teachers.

I knew that this was a special weekend. I also knew that we had to bring in as many people to this community of amazing educators and Slingerland supporters as possible.

Those seeking initial certification or certification renewal must attend a Slingerland Spring Meeting. Travelling cross-country can be prohibitive. That’s why this year, we want to bring the Spring Meeting to you.
On May 18, 2024, from 9am to 2pm Pacific, Slingerland will hold its annual Spring Meeting online. This is an opportunity to bring together the whole Slingerland family to check in, look to the future, and reconnect with what matters: promoting excellence in literacy for all.
Join us for the annual Slingerland Spring Meeting to learn about current projects, upcoming developments, and connect with other Slingerland teachers. We will have reports from the Board of Directors, the Executive Director, and the Faculty Senate.
There will also be games, prizes, and the much lauded Beth and John Slingerland Award, celebrating the hard work and important contributions of educators and Slingerland supporters like you. We hope you will join us for this 100% free event.
